About

About the house

Casa Lume is a townhouse from 1897 on a quiet street in Miragaia, restored floor by floor and opened as a hotel in 2016: fourteen rooms, a kitchen in the old wine cellar and a bath house in the laundry.

Restored floor by floor

A cork merchant built the house with his office on the ground floor and his family above it. When Inês Moura bought it in 2014, the staircase was sound and little else was.

The tiles on the front are the originals, taken down and cleaned one by one. The chestnut stairs were sanded back by hand, and the cellar where we cook now kept wine for a century.
